Donna M. Valdés was named the Executive Director of Xico in January 2007. She relies on more than 20 years of experience in community service and private industry. With an academic background in Elementary Education at Grand Canyon College, Donna served at the YWCA where she developed programs for under-privileged and troubled children and teenagers.
Donna’s passion for the arts began during her travels in Latin America which become the inspiration for her own company Maximilian Imports. Maximilian Imports’ mission was to showcase and promote Mexican folk art from the Great Masters. Donna is an avid collector of Latin American art in her own right. Most recently, her personal art collection was featured in the Latino Perspectives Magazine.
Donna is a founding Board Member and Vice President for Advocates for Latino Arts and Culture Consortium (ALAC), Secretary for Latin American Art Alliance, a support organization of Phoenix Art Museum, and the CALA Alliance Advisory Committee She has served on the Boards of Friends of Mexican Art (FOMA) and Mesa Arts Centers Day of the Dead Festival Committee; and is a member of Arizona Alliance of Nonprofits, National Association of Latino Arts Culture (NALAC)and Arizona Mexico Arts Administrators Exchange Program.
