Introducing….Xico’s Artist-in-Residence Program!

by on December 18th, 2014 in Uncategorized | No comment

Please welcome our resident artists Gennaro García and Martín Moreno! Xico provides their resident artists with studio and exhibition space throughout the year.

Gennaro García creates his artwork with a color palette inspired by his childhood in Mexico. He uses a variety of materials including acrylics, oils, wood and plaster. Participating in more than 60 exhibitions in the last four years, his work showcases world-class skill while embodying a true Latino immigrant perspective.

Martín Moreno, known for his murals, creates artwork through paintings, monoprinting, sculpture, and mosaics. He often uses his artwork as a means to express political statements and address current injustice topics.

Come to Xico and see these talented two artists in their studios in action!

CALA Alliance International Festival 2014

by on December 18th, 2014 in Uncategorized | No comment

CALA Alliance had their International Festival on November 7th and 8th at Civic Center Park in downtown Phoenix. This annual festival explores and celebrates the dynamic fusion of Latino cultural expression through the arts.

Many fantastic activities and performances included international musicians, visual artists and performers, culinary experiences, and CALA Cumbia. Xico had a printmaking booth where we made some CALA inspired prints as well as prints from designs created by one of our resident artists, Gennaro Garcia. Thank you to all who came out and printed with us!  We always love a chance to make prints with our local community.

Día de los Muertos Festival 2014

by on December 6th, 2014 in Uncategorized | No comment

On November 2nd at St. Mary’s Basilica, we partnered with St. Mary’s and the Society of St. Vincent de Paul for our Día de los Muertos Festival and Community Fundraising Event. Activities included children’s activities, interactive altars, food trucks, live entertainment, and a beer garden. We also had many talented artisans and vendors participating in the festival.

At the Día de los Muertos Festival, we proudly unveiled our giant calaveras and catrinas! L.A. based artist Daniel Gonzalez created these paper mache puppets at Xico workshops with the help of community volunteers.

Thank you so much to everyone who made it out to the festival! The event was a huge success…and we had a blast!
